In the largest city in California I teach at a public gifted magnet in the suburbs. My students come from the entire city and range in economic status from quite wealthy to very poor. The one thing they have in common is that they have been tagged as gifted and their parents enrolled them in our magnet. Many of them are driven and lack some of the moral safeguards that keep us from crossing ethical lines as they are deluged with messages from society that cheaters prosper. When teaching morality, I have to be careful to keep it connected to state standards with the real challenge being keeping it relevant to the kids.
