Most second graders have moved from learning to read into reading to learn, but they need hands-on experiences to really capture the concepts. My students attend a school where these opportunities are few because of funding. My school is in a low income area. Over half of our students are limited English speakers. I work with a wonderful team of second grade teachers and we love to do projects together. However, with all the recent cutbacks, extras are the first to go.
