Our students are from disadvantaged urban communities. They are diverse and need support for their individual needs. They attend a combined Elementary and Middle school. As an Occupational Therapist I try to create "sensory diets" that would support the students participate fully with their daily routines. Students receive sensory information through various body parts. Sensory input is then organized by the brain and regulated throughout the school day. Students receive sensory information from the muscles, the joints, the ears, the skin, the mouth, the nose, the ears and the eyes. While these body parts appear grossly intact, it is possible that some weaknesses in sensory processing contribute to a child's difficulties sustaining attention and participating fully with their daily routine.
