My students are all identified as having a disability and are between 4 ½ and five-years-old. My class is called a varying exceptionalities class which means there are many different needs within my group. Some have speech or language difficulties, some have autism, some have developmental delays and some are hearing impaired. They are great kids who might do things a little differently, but so do I! My students need active, hands on experiences for every skill I want them to learn. They see it all as play; I see it as developmentally appropriate learning. Our building is an elementary school serving prekindergarten through grade 5. My class is one of the two within my building for prekindergarten children with disabilities and the funding for special education is limited given the current Florida economy. The other teachers share with us and I buy many extras to help my students learn.
