I teach in an urban school district in Oregon. My school is large and due to its urban nature, very diverse. My students are striving to earn IB diplomas so they are very dedicated, studious and reflective. They come from various ethnic, familial and social backgrounds. Due to budget cuts my classes are quite full, sometimes 30 or more students per class. We are also limited in the amount of equipment, chemicals and space that students have to perform labs. Due to the rigorous nature of the IB curriculum they often struggle to succeed due to the difficult nature of performing lab experiments. These students have big dreams; they desire to one day become doctors, researchers and pioneers of industry.
