My students are some of the strongest individuals I know. I can say this with confidence because every day, they face hunger, poverty, and a battle of education versus finding a job to support the family, all the while thinking this is all that is out there. They live in one of the most urban centers, thinking and feeling that education is not a priority but a means to an end. I strive to excite my students about science as a way to motivate them, to turn them on to school. The materials they receive to learn science are cursory at best, but every time I bring a new experiment to the classroom, their voices of excitement and inquiry say that they need these materials to understand and to succeed.
