My students are bilingual 4th grade students. They attend public school in a large urban school district. Access to resources and reading material can sometimes be a challenge for them. Many of them are first-generation immigrants from Mexico and other parts of Latin America. Their families are mostly Spanish-speaking, working-class parents. This makes reading in English in the classroom even more important. My students are determined, hard-workers who have come so far in their education this year. They have BIG personalities and they make me laugh every day. They love to hear stories about college and they have big dreams of becoming doctors, lawyers, nurses, police officers, architects, and video game designers.
