Reading, discussing and writing about the book Every Exquisite Thing will allow seniors in high school to see that being nervous and unsure about their futures is normal. Parent expectations, high-stake testing, and peer pressure all add to the stress of being just a step away from the adult world. This book by author Matthew Quick takes readers into the life of a teen struggling to understand what is next in life while maintaining a true sense of self. Students will be encouraged to open up about their concerns and fears about entering the world of adults. Journal writing assignments, small and large group discussions, and exploration of future career education and training options will be assigned. The culmination of the project will involve students writing a This I Believe style essay to be shared with fellow graduating seniors.
