Students will have a chance to work side by side with a professional artist who is also a college art professor. Students will bring previously made bisque fired pottery with them to the workshop. Lisa will guide us through glazing and firing of pottery in the ancient Japanese method of Raku. Pots are placed into a small outdoor kiln, heated up to high temperatures with a propane tank and removed when temperatures are at their highest and placed into metal garbage cans with saw dust. Horse hair can also be applied to the hot pots to create interesting affects. While students are waiting for the kiln to heat up they will be lead in a mold making workshop. Students will bring a small object that they would like to make a mold of and Lisa will show them step by step how to create a cast out of plaster. This plaster mold can be used to create more replicas of the object in the future using casting slip.
