My Kinder bilingual students are active learners in a school filled with support and guidance despite all the hardships they have around them. After one month of school, they are able to write one sentence using high frequency words and phonetic spelling. They are engaged and curious, always asking more clarifying questions. They are resilient, strong, and have a great sense of humor, even though many of my students are only being raised by their single mothers and live in crowded houses. Our school is a Title 1 public school where 91% of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch and 82% are English Learners.
