Fifty-one percent of the 1736 students roaming the halls of my school belong to an ethnic minority, be it African American, Native Alaskan, Pacific Islander, or Hispanic/Latino (ASD Ethnicity Report 2013). Approximately 27% of the total enrolled students have free and reduced lunch options. However, the allure of the manga collection is universal! No matter race, gender, or economic status, my students hover around the manga section of the collection before school, at lunch, and after school. All of the titles I have listed have been requested by my students, and have been labeled as "Best New Manga" or "Best Continuing Manga Series" by the American Libraries Association Graphic Novel Interest Group (ALA 2014).
