My students need materials that they can read, write and listen to music from different musical periods and slates to become their own great composers of the future.

My Students

While my school has the basic instruments to teach them how to play music, it doesn't have any material that shows how we got to here in music. My students need materials to find out how music evolved from the past and why those events are so important to music history.

My students are from the ages of kindergarten to eighth grade.

They attend a charter school which usually means no music budget. They are very curious about all types of music. My students also want to know about music in the past and music around the world. My students prefer the hands-on type of music with books to read, games to play and CDs to listen to.

My Project

The requested resources will give my students pictures and music from the great composers of different periods of music, such as Baroque and Romantic. With these resources my students will be able to learn the dances of those eras. Also the music slates will give them the tools to learn how to write down musical notes like the earlier composers did. One of my best teachers always said "you need to know where you've been to know where you are going." Having these materials will give my students a better understanding of music which in turn will keep them interested in learning more about the arts.

My students are very interested in music and these materials will help them learn more while having fun.

Having materials available to them learn how to write music is priceless. It turns the classroom from teacher-centered to student-centered, which is where the learning really happens.
