Wiggle Seats Can Help Us Focus

My students need stability discs for their seats. They need bouncy bands for their chair legs. These items will help them focus by making it more comfortable to sit.

My Students

It's hard for Kindergartners to sit! It's downright painful at times. The bones in their little bodies are growing as we speak, so sitting really is a challenge. I'm asking for help to make more comfortable arrangements for them.

More than half of my students are "not ready for kindergarten" as shown on the state assessment given in September.

Some of them attended Pre-Kindergarten programs, but many are brand new to school. They work at tables, on the carpet, small group, whole group, and independently.

My Project

They will use the stability discs at their seats and at their spots on the class carpet. They also have a calming, grounding effect when a child places one on their lap. By wiggling their lower bodies on the discs, they are able to focus on the lesson or assignment. Students who are prone to rushing through work have been able to slow down when wiggling on their discs. They will use the bouncy bands to keep their feet busy. This will keep them from leaning back in chairs and keep their feet off of other students.

Even adults are miserable when asked to sit for extended periods of time.

Making a chair or the floor more comfortable is a step toward enhancing my students' enjoyment of the school day.
