My Students

Help! The plastic psychrometers we have been using are very old and out of 50 or so that we have it is difficult to find 10 that work. The plastic is broken and the thermometers fly off when the students spin them.

I teach mostly 9th graders in general Earth/Environmental Science class.

The students learn best through hands-on activities. Our school is in a rural county and students are mostly in lower socio-economic groups. 82 percent of our students are on free or reduced lunch.

My Project

With these new psychrometers students will be able to investigate the factors which influence relative humidity. Students will go to several different areas in and around our school to measure relative humidity. Students are then required to explain the factors that influenced the relative humidity in that area.

Our students need to be working with hands on type activities to inspire them to attend school and graduate.

We lose many of our students in the 9th grade to dropping out. Hopefully this type of activity can help keep kids in school.
