We've Got The Whole Math World In Our Hands

My students need hands on manipulatives, such as clocks, fraction kits, probability spinners, and graph paper to help them learn third grade math concepts.

My Students

Many new math concepts are taught in third grade. Working with clocks to help tell time, spinners for probability, symmetrical shapes and fraction kits will benefit all my students. Of course a sticker always helps say job well done. Learning is easier with hands on materials.

I teach in a third grade inclusion public school classroom.

Many of my students have individual learning plans and benefit from hands on learning. I also have English as a second language learners who will not need to depend on language to understand concepts using these manipulatives. Many of them receive free lunch.

My Project

Students get a concrete grasp of geometry skills as they work at their own pace to complete symmetrical designs, manipulate shapes and more. They will gain a deep understanding of symmetry and congruence. With the hands on tools they will predict and describe the results of sliding, flipping and turning 2-D shapes. They will be able to identify and describe rotational symmetry in 2-D shapes and designs. They can use their spinners and actually determine probability of landing on certain colors. Counting by fives on a clock and moving the hands will help reinforce time telling. Seeing fractions that are equivalent next to each other puts a picture in the students minds that they won't forget. It will be a plus to demonstrate and reinforce fractions concepts with a hands-on teaching kit! Each student will have the opportunity to see fractions and compare them using hands on learning.

To gain the basics of math third grade students need a strong introduction to these concepts.

With these tools the students will go above and beyond basic understanding and will be able to demonstrate the strategies and knowledge they received. They will be able to apply these skills to other problems.
