We’re Not Pests...We Really DO NEED DESKS!

My students need 25 desks and 25 chairs in our room to replace our tables, milk crates, and splintered chairs.

My Students

Do you remember when you were in elementary school? More than likely your memory will take you into an old classroom. You probably sat in a desk -- and your books were able to be stored in the desk. The chairs probably didn’t rip your clothes, either. That’s all we are asking for: desks and chairs!

The students in my class attend a public school in New York.

The students are in an Integrated Co-Teaching classroom, which simply means that some of the students have needs that are addressed by both a general education and a special education teacher. The class is quite diverse and the children are all races, religions, and ethnicities. The one thing they all have in common is that they love to learn!

My Project

Desks and chairs. Chairs and desks. Simple, basic staples that all students need. Our class doesn’t have chairs and desks. Instead, we have round tables and splintered wooden chairs. The round tables have no storage capacity, so the children are storing their books and supplies in milk crates. This is not an atmosphere conducive to learning. The children spend a great deal of time fumbling in their crates. The round tables take up so much room and there is not enough room to comfortably get from one point to another. The splintered chairs have ripped all of our clothes and have even given a few kids splinters! All of us in the class have tripped over countless milk crates! My students need individual desks that have the ability to hold their supplies and texts. They also need chairs that are safe! The desks and chairs will allow the students to focus on the lessons and not on the hazards of the room!

Donations to this project will truly make a difference in my students’ lives!

New desks would allow the students to safely house their books and supplies. All of the problems associated with the milk crates would be gone! The new chairs wouldn’t tear and rip the students' clothing. The students could finally be free of ALL of these problems and they would FINALLY be able to truly, truly focus on our lessons! They would feel like they were given a brand new classroom and a brand new world!
