My students need 15 copies each of a fiction and nonfiction book about bats because at the end of every school year we study bats, real and make-believe.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Bats are one of the most amazing animals in the world. They are the only flying mammals. They have excellent night vision and echolocation. Bats help humans by eating insects and pollinating flowers.
My classroom has 19 students with varying abilities: 7 ESOL students, 1 gifted student, and 11 students of varying abilities.
We are a Title I school located in Florida. Our neighborhood consists of heavy industrial businesses, migrant housing, and the Eloise Community Resource Center (ECRC). Our students come from families in a predominantly economically disadvantaged community. Our free and reduced lunch percentage is 97%.
My Project
Bats are becoming an endangered species. We want to have fun learning all about this unique and helpful animal through nonfiction and fiction literature. We learn where bats live, explore some of the species of bats, look at types of homes they have and what they eat, and consider what they look like. We talk about myths (they're blind) and truths (bats are helpful), bat conservation, and other fun bat information.
My students need 15 copies each of a fiction and nonfiction book about bats because at the end of every school year we study bats, real and make-believe.
Using fiction and nonfiction books, my students will learn about bat behavior, habitats, and conservation.
My students will use essential skills such as reading comprehension, mathematics, written and verbal communication, and more to learn about bats while learning about conservation, too.
