My Students

"Hey, teacher! I'm ready for my close up!" Inspire creativity, encourage imagination - that's what a video camera can do for our students!

Teaching a special needs class, I have found that there is a definite need for alternative assessments.

While my students often struggle with paper and pencil tests, I have found their comprehension of a topic can be measured by other creative means.

My Project

We have one Flip camera already in our classroom, and that stays in the teacher's possession. It has opened so many opportunities for our classroom! Presentations are recorded, so that parents may watch their children. We have recorded songs and student plays. With the ease of use with this device, I am often able to hand it over to students to record their classmates. I would love to be able to hand small groups a camera and have them create a presentation based on what we are learning in class. To do this, however, we need more than one camera.

Paper and pencil are not helping my students in class this year.

My students are comprehending our units, but they are not able to successfully respond to the traditional test. With your help, they will be able to show not only their understanding, but encourage and expand their imagination and creativity as they film and edit movies in various subjects, such as math, history, science, and even reading and writing! "Teacher, it's time for my close up!"
