This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I remember being very excited about Weekly Reader arriving each week when I was a student. I would like to bring that excitement and knowledge to the kindergarten students in my classroom.

I teach a full-day kindergarten class of 30 students.

I am a teacher in a Chicago Public School. We are very limited in funding for materials. My goal is to provide my students with a well-rounded curriculum that will incorporates all of the subjects including science and social studies. Ninety-three percent of my students are considered low-income and receive free/reduced lunches. Ten percent of the population is considered Limited English Proficient. There are special education students with the general education students. My students are fun, energetic and challenging. They would love to have their own "magazines" to learn about science and social studies.

My Project

The Weekly Readers will allow for my kindergrtners to learn about the holidays, fire safety, famous Americans, the seasons, animals, health and many more concepts related to social studies and science. Each week the children will learn new vocabulary, main ideas, compare and contrast, sequence, drawing conclusions, predicting and many other concepts that will increase their comprehension of the various subjects.

Your help will ensure that a 84 year old tradition of having Weekly Readers in the classroom will continue.

The students will learn about subjects in social studies and science and thus increase the skills necessary to become successful readers and learners. What could be better than that!!!
