We Need Notebooks!

My students need 80 notebooks to record class notes and take ownership of their education.

My Students

High school is the time where adolescents can become organized and detailed-oriented. The best way for students to organize their class notes is if they have a single notebook for each subject. In math class, my students notes are often lost (or never taken) because they do not have a math notebook.

My students are ninth graders in Tennessee.

They attend a low-income high school in Nashville, Tennessee. The enter high school far behind their peers, so every moment in the public education system counts. Students come to class with no notebook, textbook, or even a pencil. They are caring students that are trying to be responsible but they have not been given the materials necessary to reach their full potential in high school.

My Project

I am requesting that each of my eighty students has their own notebook for math. While I am working hard to compensate for a lack of materials, my students would really excel in math if they were able to take notes in an organized manner, and then study those notes. More so, they need to take ownership and be responsible for not only their class records, but also keeping track of material possessions. High school is a time when adolescents learn to be responsible and teach themselves to take notes, study notes, and keep track of materials.

Having access to a notebook will help my students succeed.

When my students leave Algebra 1 with an organized notebook that emphasizes key points, examples and common misconceptions they will be able to use their notebook in future classes, to prepare for standardized tests, and even use their notebook as a helpful reminder for college courses.
