In our classroom, we have a unique group of students, each with their own learning needs. Throughout our school day, we meet several times in small groups for instruction that is tailored to meet the needs of these diverse learners. Currently our small group instruction is done on the floor.
The motto at our school is "Where kids come first." Every day, each teacher at our school lives by that motto.
We put our hearts into our students and do everything we can for this incredible group of kids. My school is a low income school in Central Kentucky. The furniture in our classrooms is very old and has been handed down to us by other schools in our district. We have basic furniture that students need, such as desks and chairs, but things like kidney shaped tables are a rarity at our school.
My Project
My students are unique learners and have many different learning needs that can be better met in a small group setting as opposed to whole class instruction. Being able to work with students in smaller groups around a table will allow me to break down what we've learned, during whole class instruction, into smaller "chunks" that are on their level. Research has shown that small group instruction has a positive impact on student learning. Currently in our classroom, small group instruction is done on the floor in our carpet area. Having a table to gather as a small group would allow me to address specific learning needs of my students and impact their learning in a positive way.
Having a table, like this kidney shaped table, to sit around together and meet in a small group setting would be such a blessing to our classroom.
Please help us get a kidney shaped table so that we can have a place to gather together and learn.
