My students need 2 Google Nexus tablets to incorporate techonolgy in the classroom. The magazines are for cross-curricular immersion using technology.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember the excitement of creating and publishing your own work in elementary school? I want my students to be able to feel like professional authors by creating their own stories and sharing them with the world! The magazines will enable my reluctant & below level readers to engage with the text.
I work at an amazing school, but our access to technology is limited.
We are a renaissance school, which means that many of our students are below poverty line. We also have a high english language learning population. That hasn't stopped us from doing our best to succeed! Every morning, my students come to school eager to learn. Our district has recently implemented a bring your own device program, where students can use their own technology in the classroom to enhance their learning. Unfortunately, many of my students do not have computers at home. This puts them at a disadvantage for being able to truly master the common core standards. For example, one standard requires students to "add audio recordings and visual displays to presentations when appropriate to enhance the main ideas or themes." The tablets will help them to record and research what they need to complete their projects.
My Project
I want my students to be able to feel like professional authors by creating their own stories and sharing them with the world! We only have 2 computers in our classroom, and they run very slow. The students will be able to use the tablets to interact with the content in them and also "bring to life" other educational resources. My students understand more when they have access to content presented to them both in visual and auditory ways. They will use the tablets to create and share many great things. The Scholastic magazines will be used to give students more access to high interest, non fiction and narrative text resources.
Integrating technology in my classroom will make a huge difference in the lives of my students.
It will help improve the progress of my students as learners and as thinkers, and will allow them to be citizens of the world. The Scholastic magazines will encourage my students to apply what they have learned to their own lives.
