We Are Seniors and Have Never Dissected! Please Help!

My Biology students need 25 frogs and my Anatomy students need 14 pigs to dissect in pairs.

My Students

I have been teaching biology for 14 years. This is my first year at a new district. I was saddened to learn that my high school students have never dissected anything! My senior AP students told my that they did dissect a bean once. They are very eager to have an opportunity to dissect.

I teach at a rural school.

I have been told that we are the third poorest in our region. I have also been told that dissection specimens are not in our budget. My students are very excited about dissecting. They said that they have been told several times that they would be able to, but they never were. I want to make this happen for them. My Biology students need 25 frogs and my Anatomy students need 14 pigs to dissect in pairs. They are an amazing group of children that deserve to have the same opportunities that other students at larger schools do.

My Project

My freshman Biology class will be dissecting frogs and learning about body systems. They will also be learning basic lab safety procedures and techniques. My Anatomy and Physiology class will be dissecting fetal pigs. They will do a more detailed dissection than the freshman. This will help prepare them for college level biology classes.

This will be an experience that my students will remember for a lifetime.

We all remember dissecting in school. It is a shame that these kids might make it all the way through high school and never dissect anything more than a bean. Thank you!
