My Students

I am a passionate reader! The Hunger Games is one of the best books that I have read in a long time. My excitement over this trilogy and movie has filtered down to my students. They are dying to read the book but we only have one copy in the library, and the wait list is several pages long.

My students range in age from kindergarten to 8th grade.

I teach in a rural town outside a major city in our state. The students here live in high poverty. They do not have access to text at home. The majority of our students do not love to read, but they are slowly making a change to becoming avid readers.

My Project

The Hunger Games trilogy is the current craze in young adult literature. I am asking for a class set of the first book along with the teaching materials needed to fully engage the students. Our school district is a firm believer in making reading a priority. When the students are reading something they love, then reading becomes a priority for them.

My middle school students are dying to read this trilogy, but we do not have the books for them to read.

When students who do not love reading come to you every day begging for this book, it makes you want to do whatever you can to get it for them.
