My students need a writing center table that will help support their excitement for writing while organizing the materials needed to produce quality work.
What is one of the most preferred activities in today's kindergarten classroom? Writing! Students love to be creative with their writing which requires lots of supplies. My students need a writing center that organizes our writing supplies.
My kindergarten students are five and six years old who love learning.
Our school is a Title I school located in a rural community which has high poverty. During our school year, students learn very quickly that they are authors when they write. It is exciting to be a part of their learning as they grow as writers.
My Project
Currently our writing center consists of two small desks pushed together with supplies located in flimsy plastic trays. Due to limited space, not many supplies can be out at one time. This limits my students' creativity.
The new writing center has a hutch with several supply shelves. The end cap also provides more storage space for additional supplies. My students will be able to choose the materials they want to work with to create their writing pieces. This will add excitement to being an author.
Organization systems in the classroom also teach students to be responsible. Everything has a place. Students can easily learn how to clean up and keep things organized. This is a skill that will help them be successful in life.
My kindergarten students love to write about things they know--pets, family, friends, and events like birthdays.
By supporting this project, you will be giving my classroom a way to organize materials needed for young authors to be creative and grow as writers.
