We Are All Equal

My students need 30 copies of "Maniac Magee" and 5 copies of "Root Cellar".

My Students

Connecting with our past can only create a better tomorrow. "Help us become highly educated leaders of the future who embrace diversity and understand how each person's uniqueness makes the world a better place to live in."

My students are just amazing.

Although our students come from many different backgrounds, they do not differentiate between one another, but quickly learn to support each other in their learning and develop beautiful friendships. Our school is very special because we have a diverse population of learners. We have gifted students, students with special learning needs, English Language Learners, and hearing impaired students. Despite learning and socioeconomic differences, our kids work collaboratively every day to learn and master learning standards.

My Project

Breaking the barriers of racism, discrimination, and stereotyping begin at an early age. With these books, Maniac Magee and Root Cellar, students for years to come will not only learn how to identify elements of a story, but will develop their reading comprehension skills while understanding the dynamics that led up to and after the civil rights movement. Students will read and work in pairs and small groups to create a timeline and accurately locate points in history and identify key legislature that established civil rights for everybody.

Tomorrow's leaders must be prepared to hold hands with everyone.

In today's global market, rising above racism, discrimination, and stereotyping are key to creating a better world. By reading about racism prior to and during the civil rights movement, students every year will learn what happened in the past and what we can do to strengthen tomorrow.
