This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
By the end of the school year, I would love for each one of my students to be able to read on grade level and have developed a love for reading. My biggest challenge is keeping them focused, engaged and excited about learning.
My students aren't your typical everyday students.
They are not able to sit still for long periods of time. They are not able to easily stay focused on one given topic. Most come from single parent homes and many are being raised by grandparents. Many have seen and experienced the hardships of life too soon. Despite all of that, they continue to have a spark in their eyes each morning when I great them.
My Project
My students will use the materials in small groups. It will provide them with the opportunity to work collaboratively and independently. These resources will be set up in stations and centers that my students will travel around the room to utilize. Not only will my students get the constant physical movement the need from moving from station to station they will be excited and highly engaged with these targeted activities as well. They will be improving their phonemic awareness, vocabulary and comprehension. Which will aid them tremendously in improving their reading levels and abilities. Most importantly turning them into confident readers.
The majority of my students are functioning at reading levels that are extremely low.
Many have already had to repeat grades. This project will provide highly engaging activities that will increase motivation, interest and help my students to develop a love or reading and learning overall.
