My Students

I serve our Gifted students in a pull-out program so I don't get to see them everyday. We make the most of our time not only learning but having fun doing it! These students are curious about the world around them and as Louis L'Amour said, "You can't learn from experiences you aren't having!"

My students are gifted students, but we live in high-poverty area.

This is a challenge because these students need engagement, extension to the curriculum and experiences outside of school that our small school and our parents just can't provide. Our school is 80% free and reduced lunch, showing how much need there is in our community. However, we have dedicated parents and students who want to learn and experience everything they can.

My Project

The students will use the trip as part of their Social Studies curriculum. We will learn first hand about the founding of the country, some of our presidents, and other historical events. We will have the chance to visit a portion of the Holocaust Museum to extend the story "Number the Stars" we have been reading. Our students will see historical and scientific artifacts they have studied and read about in the Smithsonian. The trip will bring to life what we have been learning.

Our students are so curious about the world.

They also really have a passion for learning, and being able to see, to touch, and to experience this much history will forever change their view of education and our world. Many of these students will not have the opportunity to travel this far from home or visit such a big city, and it will help them understand what our world is away from our small town. The inspiration and motivation it will bring is immeasurable.
