Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Perseverance and determination is a characteristic that is truly important for my sixth graders to learn. Many come from homes where they are not expected to go far and I want them to learn anything is possible if they have determination and persevere.
We are a Title I school located in downtown Phoenix.
With very little money in the school budget, it is difficult to request a permanent classroom set of this delightful book. Our school is filled with hopeful students wanting to achieve greatness, but unfortunately money is tight and it is hard to obtain the tools and resources to help them strive and be successful.
My Project
We are looking to obtain 35 copies (hardback, because they last longer) of the delightful book Bud, Not Buddy. The adventures of Bud is something the students can partially relate to because of the age of the lead character. Also, the financial difficulties facing the people during the time of the Great Depression, is relatable to the students because of the economic difficulties facing many families during these troubling time in the U.S. now.
It is important to get a classroom set of this story, so the students can learn about the times and trials of children during an era they are not familiar with.
It is a wonderful book as well as a delightful message which allows the students to read a wonderful story.
