My students are like sponges and absorb knowledge from the activities in the classroom.
I teach first grade in a rural school in Tennessee where most of my students come from low income families.
They have varied learning styles and academic levels. Like all children, they love to be read to. When they are read to, they comprehend most of what they hear. I am asking for a listening center for my class. This center will be used to help students, especially struggling readers, to increase literacy, comprehension, and vocabulary through a variety of subject matter.
My Project
I will incorporate this variety of books in my classroom through center time. Students will be allowed to go to the listening center during center time, They will be provided with the printed story so the words and pictures are seen as well as heard. Students will discuss the story orally in a small group with questions provided by me. This activity will help increase competency, vocabulary, and literacy.
Donations to this project will help my students gain exposure to materials that will help expand their knowledge, increase competency and enable them to be more productive in the future.
