This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine being in a sea of never ending traffic. Void of a signal light, where there is no green or yellow stoplight to help them stop and pause to clarify information and no green light to process facts quickly.

We are located in South Central Los Angeles and ninety-eight percent of my students reside in low-income households.

I provide academic instruction in language arts and mathematics to students in the Resource Specialist Program. All of my students have learning disabilities in the form of an auditory and visual processing deficit. Students with auditory processing deficits have extreme difficulty understanding verbally given information, which makes it difficult for them to follow multiple step directives needed to complete complex language arts and math assignments. The student with visual processing deficits have extreme difficulty processing written information, which results in them having difficulty reading grade level material.

My Project

The overhead projector will enable students with learning disabilities to grasp academic concepts with clarity through combining visual and verbal instruction together. This will help students experience success by being able to visualize learning!

All of our students have high academic aspirations, and are working collaboratively to help our school transition from an 2011 API score of 789 to an overall 2012 API of 800 plus.!
