This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a truly gifted group of math students who love accessing material in a tangible way. They learn so much more quickly when they can touch, move, and draw the concepts covered in pre-algebra. Graphing functions is a difficult unit and this will really boost their learning!

My students attend a school in a low income community that works hard to provide not only a positive environment, but a truly exceptional school.

Our resources are limited, however, so giving students the opportunity to use tangible materials often becomes difficult.

My Project

I am requesting white boards for each of my students that are labeled with an x-y axis and a grid, for easy function graphing. I am also requesting white board markers of various colors (so that we can better label our graphs!) and erasers for each of my students. These white boards will serve two major purposes for my students. First, they will allow my students to easily graph functions and visualize key information, such as the slope and x- and y-intercepts. Furthermore, all of my students will be able to show me what they know at the same time through quick white board checks. This will build my students' confidence in graphing and will keep all of my students engaged, participating, and learning!

To succeed in Algebra I next year, my students must have a strong grasp of graphing functions and inequalities.

These white boards will help them interact with the material and make the learning purposeful and fun!
