This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students have grasped the ukulele by the neck and have taken the ride to greatness! This is the first year of my ukulele program, the students have both learned to play and to treat the instruments with respect. Their only complaint is the cheap fishing line type strings, they hold them back.

My ukulele ensemble is made up of 4th and 5th grade students at my Title I school.

The ukulele has opened their eyes to the possibility of instrumental music in their lives. Many of my students have saved up their own money, through allowance and working, to purchase their own instrument! But, the school set of instruments, holds them back in rehearsal due to the cheap nature of the stock strings. Aquila strings are widely known to be the best on the market for any ukulele- inexpensive or not.

My Project

The strings will supply our classroom set of ukuleles, as well as my ukulele ensemble with a clearer, fresher sound. They will learn the value of money and expense. Sometimes, it is worth the price to purchase a quality instrument with accessories. Although this lesson sounds superficial or fake, for the students in my area this lesson may be one of the most important for them to learn as a student and child.

These donations will improve the sound of my classroom ukuleles, taught in 5th grade.

It will also allow the ukulele ensemble to perform with more confidence, instead of feeling cheap or not worth it.
