My Students

When you were in elementary school did you ever think that one day elementary students would have to be so reliant on technology? Well now days students spend a good part of their school day dealing with technology.

I have a wonderful group of second graders!

They are so eager to come to school and they are motivated to learn. However many of them come from low income homes where there is not much in the way of technology available to them. So they need to come to school to get technology use and to be able to keep up with the rest of the students their age. The problem is that my classroom lacks much of the technology that we need to keep up and rise above. We are constantly having to take assessments that are computer based and we need the practice so that students aren't getting hung up on the technology portion of the assessment and can focus on the content. Having iPad minis with cases in our classroom will allow us to practice this skill. IPad minis will also open up a whole new world of learning for my students in the way of apps. Right now my students read books on the computers but this can only be done once a week in the lab. By using apps my students will be able to read online even more.

My Project

My students will be able to explore our reading website on the iPads to become more familiar with the site for our assessments. My students will be able to use the iPads to explore the games and activities we learn in math on our math curriculum website. The use of apps will be integrated into my classroom as well. I have many students who are learning English. There are a number of apps available to help them through this process. I would especially like to use the iPads as a form of enrichment for my higher level students. It is often those students who get overlooked because they are at grade level, how great would it be to challenge them to become even more!

I believe that all students have the right to learn with all the resources available to them.

However some students have more resources available to them than others. How great would it be to "level the playing field" for my struggling students? Bringing technology into my classroom could help do just that. They deserve a chance to be the best learner they can be!
