Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students rush into my classroom every day greet me as they enter the classroom. They instantly look around for clues into what we will be leaning today. They ask if there are experiments and videos to be had. It's always an energetic commotion happening in my classroom.
I teach at an ESL school.
Some students have been in the United States for less than a year, some for 2-3 years, and some arriving a few months ago. While English is their biggest hurdle, it's also also what connects all of my students together. These students are genuine, creative, bright and of course, sometimes loud. But always respectful.
My Project
I have students of all English levels but there is one class that I think can benefit the most from these materials. They can share these electronic translators and use them to check their work, look up words, check their spelling, and it will help them gain confidence in their English speaking and writing abilities.
They are desperate to learn and communicate but they are so new to English, it's such a struggle.
Imagine trying to look up every word in a sentence! Then doing that for an essay! My students do have background knowledge from their own country, they just need some help to translate it! These translators to help them write, read, and speak every day.
