My Students

Inspire Science in our classroom! Give these kids the tools they need to see themselves as more that a high school drop-out.

Out of 16 students, 15 of them come from low-income families where either both or one of their parents did not finish high school.

The idea of being a scientist or even attending college is a distant dream for many of them. My class was formed in October due to class size rules. The district will fund the teacher but not the materials needed to teach or inspire. As my students are use to dealing without, we have made due, however it is almost impossible to teach science without the proper tools to do the experiments.

My Project

With graduated cylinders and scales, my students will be able to have hands-on experience with real tools that scientists use. We will be able to be experiments (about measure matter, volume and mass) and internalize what the books have be talking about. They will hopefully be able to begin to see themselves as having more possibilities for their lives and who knows...maybe one of them will grow up to be a scientist.

In addition to helping supply tools to our class, you are also showing my students that there are people out in the world who value education so much that they are willing to support kids that they don't even know.
