This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Teach music and singing at school in such a way that it is not torture but a joy for the pupil; instill a thirst for finer music in him, a thirst which will last a lifetime...The way should be paved for direct intuition." (Zoltan Kodaly, 1929).

My students are hard-working, committed, and fun musicians.

Every piece of music I hand them to sing or any instrument I ask them to play gets them excited and enthused to learn more. It is an absolute joy to work with them. Every day I want to do more to help them grow musically! My students are lower middle class and middle class students. A large percentage qualify for the school's free lunch program. They come from strong families with parents who want the best for their kids. The students are an eclectic bunch of talented kids that come from all over my city to attend our special school. Some face two-hour bus rides in the morning and the evening to get to our school. They are dedicated to education, and passionate about making a change in our world. It is an honor to be their teacher.

My Project

Students will use these instruments in all the music classes. They were learn to play the chimes, but they will also have an opportunity to practice their music literacy skills in a fun and aesthetically pleasing way. The choir plans to take the chimes on a field trip to a local nursing home for our fourth annual holiday visit. The students are thrilled to share music that is so beautiful and calming.

Donations to this project will improve my classroom by offering further opportunities for students to make music and to learn to read music.

It will change their lives for the better because it will empower them with more knowledge of how music works, how to make music, and it allows them to experience firsthand the healing power of music.
