This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an eclectic group of art enthusiasts who come from difficult economic and social environments, but persevere despite the challenges. One of the challenges we face as a class is that we only have one computer.

My advanced placement 2D design students need access to computers so that they may learn how to use graphics programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator to create innovative artwork.

My students are longing for the chance to use Photoshop as a professional tool for creating artwork, photo images and designs.

My Project

With the computer I am requesting, my Advanced Placement students will learn paint and image software, using it as an artist's tool to solve design problems and create original artwork. Emphasis will be on exploring the visual elements in good design through experimentation. Each student will create a body of work that will serve as a portfolio to present to art colleges for admission.

For many of my students this is the only opportunity they will have in their high school careers to be exposed to the world of digital design.

I believe that the opportunity to learn about computer graphics may motivate students to seek higher education opportunities in this field.
