My Students

Working with clay is hard! Even as adults, we have a difficult time sculpting and building with clay and making it look perfect. Can you imagine how frustrating it would be to only be 5-11 years old and try, to no avail, to create the wonderful ceramic project you're imagining?

My students are between the ages of 5 and 11 (Kindergarten through 5th grade) and come from extremely diverse backgrounds of race and socio-economic status.

Our school is situated on a military post in Colorado. Many parents of students have been, will be, or are currently deployed overseas.

My Project

Having a slab roller in our art room will allow students of every age to be able to use clay to create ceramic projects. Younger children can make Christmas ornaments and tiles. Older students can make vases and mugs. The best part of having this slab roller is that it takes the difficulty out of making a perfect clay project. Children can get past the frustrating part of using clay and get to the exciting part where the project of their imagination can be created perfectly!

My students are lucky enough to be able to experience making ceramic art projects but have a difficult time with the fine motor skills that great ceramic artworks require.

However, I do not want them to lose out on the experience of clay just because they are frustrated. My Art Class budget cannot support buying a slab roller, so I'm requesting this equipment to be donated because I know how valuable it can be to the creativity of my student ceramicists!
