This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Reading has improved all of our lives in so many ways, and having the availability of great pieces of literature has allowed us to explore the world through it. This possibility should not be a luxury, nor out of reach for any child. My scholars deserve to have books that will nurture their minds.
My second graders are native Spanish-speakers in a bilingual classroom.
Our school is in a low-income community within inner-city Dallas. In our classroom we learn mostly in Spanish, and need Spanish texts to nurture our expanding imaginations. As a first year teacher, I face the challenge of creating a space that will be comfortable and resourceful for my scholars. Books are perhaps one of the most important components still missing in the space that will become my student's learning quarters.
My Project
I remember the day I discovered my favorite book, "The Giving Tree", in my 3rd grade classroom library. I love that book because it taught me to always love and give to others. My scholars deserve to have books that will nurture their minds, language, and hearts, just like "The Giving Tree" did for me. Through these books we will be able to explore the world, create personal awareness of social issues, learn about historical events and figures, and expand our imaginations. This will help my scholars become better students, friends, siblings, community members, and members of our universal community.
Reading is perhaps one of the most important aspects of education.
Every teacher is a reading teacher, and reading is a skill needed every day. Help my class learn, explore, and grow by giving us the resources we need to become outstanding scholars!
