The Key to Reading Success: Comprehension and Fluency
My project needs one Building Comprehension listening center, 2 sets of reading comprehension cards, 3 reader's theater activities, 2 fluency card packs, and one Partner Reading Book Set.
I am a Second grade teacher at Couch Elementary in Garland, TX. I have taught second grade for 8 years. I teach all subjects to my students. My goal is for my students to become life long lovers of reading. I believe that reading is the key to success in all subject areas.
A huge part of reading in second grade is fluency and comprehension. By mastering comprehension and fluency in second grade, the students are more prepared for 3rd grade and the TAKS test. Over the years I have learned that if I can put the skills in a game form or fun activity, the students are more likely to participate, be engaged in the activity, and retain the skill.
I have found many fun activities that focus on fluency and comprehension. I would like to have the these resources to help my students dive into learning with enthusiasm. My proposal is for several reader's theater activities and fluency building activities (partner reading and take it to your seat fluency cards). I am also asking for reading comprehension cards (fiction and nonfiction) and a Building Comprehension listening center.
This proposal will not only help the students that are in my class now, but will benefit many second graders to come. My goal is to build life long readers.
