Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Action and adventure, through metaphor and mystery. The students in my advisory adore reading, but have little means to obtain the novels they wish to enjoy and explore together.

They have selected Yann Martel's Life of Pi to embark on together, and I could not be more proud and excited to share this journey with them.

My students in advisory attend an urban, high poverty, all Latino charter school in Illinois. Daily, they are encouraged and motivated to work relentlessly to achieve surpass the high expectations set for them, and meet the challenge with grit and honor.

My Project

Even through they are bound by the statistics of the zip code, they are diligently committed and eager to expand their education and worldview through whatever means possible. The novel The Life of Pi creates dual worlds within the realm of reason. My students will work together to understand the metaphors created by Yann Martel, and delve into the lessons he exposes through rhetoric.

The more high quality literature my advisory reads, the more they ask to read.

I know that the only way they will succeed in life is if they learn to love learning. By providing them with a brand new class set of novels, you will be helping my students take ownership of their lives, their learning, and their worldview expansion. "The Life of Pi" will expose my students to modern literature, rich in culture and detail. They will enjoy the rich message of morality and faith Martel weaves through
