Have you ever discovered the joy of growing something from a seed? The world of possibilities for learning through growing plants and studying the environment is endless. Gardens grow knowledge.
My students attend a project-based charter school in rural Minnesota.
The students in our school live in poverty with 85% qualifying for free or reduced lunch. They are bright, inquisitive middle school students who love to experiment and learn through hands-on projects. Growing edible plants will help promote healthy eating and environment stewardship.
My Project
My students will study plant growth, the environment, and healthy nutrition throughout the year. They will observe first hand how plants grow, environment responsibility through plant care, and healthy nutrition through growing edible plants. We will explore different habitats and plant biology. We will use the plants to grow a garden as well as landscape the school yard. This is why I am requesting a cart plant shelf and soil.
Many of my students live in poverty and do not have the resources to learn the concepts I have outlined above.
Healthy nutrition is an issue among our students. This project will allow them to try fruits and vegetables they grow themselves. We have joined a group called "Green Charter Schools" and are setting many goals for the environment. This project will enable my students to learn about the environment and how to care for it.
