The Great Camcorder Acquisition

My students need a camcorder, tripod and memory card, because the journalism class is huge and we need more equipment to make the videos we love.

My Students

We launched a digital journalism class last year, producing a news show and a website with Sports Center, Profiles, Student Life and more. The class is even larger this year and we want to make more videos. So we need to add another camcorder to the few that we have.

Approximately 36 juniors and seniors have joined digital journalism to master reporter skills and let their writing, photography and video editing talents flourish.

The students at our school break the school spirit meter every year, and we want to capture it on video.

My Project

Students go out in teams of two to cover a story. They interview sources, shoot b-roll, get nat sound and record voiceovers so they can edit and produce interesting feature stories for WHTV shows. With only two camcorders and a few pocket camcorders, we need more cameras to allow more teams in the field at a time. The more stories the students produce, the more they will feel like professional journalists. And the more the school will benefit from the community feeling they'll have watching the show.

We want to try to win up to $600 in funding from the Yahoo Homepages for Homerooms promotion.
