"Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn"-Benjamin Franklin
For understanding to occur, student's should be actively engaged in hands-on learning. Cow eye ball dissection will challenge, intrigue and teach them how the amazing eye works to create sight.
I teach at a Title One, inner city middle school, where 80% of the students are on free or reduced lunch.
The kids are wonderful children who want to learn. They did not have a science teacher for two years and lack the basic understandings of science and human anatomy. They are full of energy when the come in to my room.
My Project
My students will dissect the eye ball using the dissecting kit and pans. They will look at each part of the eye, identify it and state its function. Looking at an eye diagram doesn't give the students the first hand experience that they deserve in learning. They will draw what they are see during the dissection. Also, they will discuss how light travels through each part of the eye, what happens to light rays as it goes through different parts of the eye, and how vision is finally created.
This activity will teach them about the behavior of light waves as they travel through different parts of the eye to create sight.
This donation will help my students grasp difficult information though hands-on activity.
This can motivate and challenge them to learn and become future teachers, scientists and doctors.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
