This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

You can do it! You will do your best on the test! This is the message I will give our students during the Test Prep Pep-Rally.

As a school counselor, I work with over 900 students in grades 3-6.

They are highly motivated and eager to learn. Our students are resilient, overcoming many life challenges at young ages. The students I work with are culturally diverse and the majority is English language learners.

My Project

Our students work all year long to prepare for the State Assessments and learn the skills they will need to be successful. The test creates a lot of anxiety and pressure for the students, so right before the ELA, MATH and SCIENCE test I go into the classroom to do a Test Prep Pep-Rally. During the Pep-Rally I try to get the students excited about the test. I encourage them to do their best. I review test taking strategies, sing test prep songs and play test prep games. I will use the posters to hang around the school to remind students good test taking tips. I will use the motivating pencils and stickers as prizes during the pep-rally. Each day before the test I will give the students words of encouragement with candy (everyone loves candy). I will give the students Dum Dum lollipops with labels saying, "You're not a Dum, Dum, you will do your best." I will give the students the Twizzlers with a label saying "Don't let the test TWIST your mind".

The students and teachers work so hard all year long and so much emphasis is put on the state assessments.

Students are able to perform their best when they are relaxed, comfortable and confident. The test pep-rally and words of encouragement are a fun way to help the students reach their full potential. Please help get our student excited about their upcoming test.
