"If you think you can, you can. If you think you can't you're right." Henry Ford.
I try to instill the essence of this quote into the minds of my students each year. I feel I need to give them every opportunity to show that they CAN!
My students are so incredible!
They are a diverse group represented by many ethnicities and languages. They love learning and are preparing to make the world a better place. They are team players who understand that teamwork leads to success and that minds working together bring about change, and change is what drives growth. They are students who see mistakes as an avenue to learning and know that with each mistake, a new lesson is learned. They are hard working and value education.
They are growing each day and have just begun new friendships with new pen pals in Bele, Ethiopia, where my daughter is a Peace Corps volunteer. They are curious and want to know more about the differences and similarities they have with their new friends and will be able to use your donation to bring them one step closer together.
My Project
Oh the possibilities for using Chromebooks in the classroom!
There are many projects and assignments that I have planned as well as several that the students have planned. Each student will get an opportunity to use the Chromebooks and cases every day!
We will learn about other cultures and grow as global thinkers by obtaining first hand accounts of how children live and learn across the globe. They will connect with their new pen pal friends in Ethiopia. They will make and trade videos comparing and contrasting their daily lives.
During math rotations, they will be able to focus and research on "real life" math projects aligned to the common core standards, but most importantly, preparing them for how math will be incorporated into their daily lives! For example, they will plan trips and parties staying within a budget.
Other applications that will be incorporated, and available are iTunes U and TED talks. New apps are introduced daily, so there are endless opportunities to learn!
Learning with limited technology does NOT prepare children for the world around them!
Children who enjoy learning and are actively involved in the process, not only perform better and are better prepared, but are happier and enjoy school more! I want to give my students every possible advantage.
