My students need an interactive white board & handset voting devices to contribute towards collaborative a learning. As a teacher I need MimioCapture to record lessons.
"In the seed is an apple that you can't see yet", this quote reminds me of the underprivileged students that I teach on a daily basis who have potential that many people don't see.
Many of the students I teach are from homes without technology & parental support.
I've had students who didn't have electricity before. My students live in a rural community, many of them talk about food stamps & the money their parents get from the government and how their family depend on it. We often hold clothing drives and different outfitting programs (like for shoes) to help our students gain the things they need. I also have multiple students in my class who are very bright, but don't have enough to eat at home one the weekends so we sent home sacks of food in their backpack with them through our backpacks program on Friday afternoons. Our school is a very small school, PreK-12. Our school is a Title 1 school with the majority of our students on free/reduced lunch.
My Project
My students will be able to learn multiple subjects (Math, Reading, Language Arts, Science, Geography) with the items I am requesting. They will be able to manipulate interactive items on the board in order to better understand content. The reading program that we have adopted in our county has interactive lessons already made to accompany the text books & common core curriculum for our grade level.
To summarize, I know that my project will make a difference in the lives of these students I spend everyday with because their eyes light up when anyone uses any kind of technology around them.
I believe that they will become more interested in their academics and have a better chance an cooperative learning alongside their peers then without technology in the classroom.
