Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

As a teacher, I am constantly learning, just like my students. I have attended workshops demonstrating exciting new methods of teaching different topics. As of lately, there have been some new developments and ideas that use technology in the classroom, but first we need the technology.

Our classroom has three desktop computers, and I have 19 kids and counting.

This would be a tough squeeze even if the computers were brand new, but they aren't. My students are an energetic and lively bunch of 3rd graders with varying family backgrounds, interests, and understanding. Being a year-round school, we track in and out of classrooms. Classrooms are similar, but not identical.

My Project

Two iPads with cases would allow us to continue to use software like SMART Notebook in rooms that don't yet have a SMART Board. We have also recently acquired MobyMax, an enrichment program for all subjects, which students could practice on the iPads as well. Students will use these iPads for many subjects to research, work in small groups, and provide intervention to students who may need a small push and a little extra practice.

iPads are so user-friendly to the students, allowing them to directly touch and interact with information.

They are also portable, unlike the desktops in our classroom; it will be easier to spread out on the floor or desks and work with their peers. Having this technology available to them will provide a new avenue to collaborate, share, and create in addition to traditional methods of pencil and paper.
