My Students

Have you ever thought about analyzing a precept in science? How about analyzing then applying that precept? A typical day involves student choice, active engagement and authentic assessment. Einstein once said, "if you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough" and we agree.

We are a community of learners in a challenging yet captivating environment.

The school is rigorous and incredibly diverse, allowing for multiple perspectives and a variety of learners. My students have incredible personalities and more importantly follow the one-rule: respect everything and everyone, including themselves. My students are independent and collaborative learners. They adapt current events into the lesson to make learning relatable. They set goals for themselves and frequently reflect on their learning. They challenge themselves and set their own standards high to achieve their goals.

My Project

As a first year science teacher, imagine combining the following cross-cutting concepts: science-literacy, science-mathematics, science-history, science-technology. Now, imagine what these students can be capable of when reaching the next grade? If the students learn the next generation science standards and apply the cross cutting concepts, they can learn successful habits of mind. Our goal is to create an environment of students who can be practical learners - where learning is both fun and interactive. They will apply theory to practice. This is important, especially during science labs.

This project will allow the students to become social-emotional learners, including learning self-management, self-awareness, autonomy, and gaining social awareness.

My goal is to make my students curious learners inside and outside the classroom. This will change my students' lives because they will learn and apply practical concepts e.g., how to research credible sources, how to cite credible sources, how to analyze data & create data for authentic assessment. We rely on them and vice versa.
